Visas British Nationals do not require a visa to enter Botswana. If you are not of British Nationality you should seek confirmation with the Botswana High Commission for the relevant visa documentation.
Currency & Credit Cards The unit of currency is the Pula (P). One Pula is divided into 100 Thebe (t). Credit Cards can be used in some of the safari camps though not all accept all credit cards.
Health & Medical Requirements If you have recently visited a Yellow Fever infected area you are required to have a valid vaccination certificate which must be taken on holiday with you. Malaria is present and you are also advised to take a course of anti-Malarial pills. We strongly advise you to reconfirm your vaccination requirements with your own/family doctor. Vaccines are currently available for many infectious diseases. The immunity from vaccines is never immediate or total and it can take some weeks to get full protection. In addition it could take several trips to your doctor so you must plan your vaccinations WELL IN ADVANCE. Full medical and pharmaceutical facilities are not always available throughout Botswana and if you use special or particular prescriptions you are advised to take sufficient supplies with you. Please ensure you take all of your valid vaccination certificates on holiday with you as you could be asked to produce them at the airport. Lastly and most importantly, you should never travel to a foreign country without taking Holiday and Travel Insurance.
Electricity Both mains electricity and generated supply in lodges provide 240volts AC50 cycles. Sockets are normally of the 3 “square” pin variety 13 amp.
Time Botswana is 3 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time.
Personal Safety Botswana society is less affluent than Western society and it is best never to make an ostentatious show of wealth. Though great efforts have been made by the authorities there are still, like in any country in the world, some areas in towns best avoided at night. It is unwise to carry large amounts of cash around with you when exploring any town. It would also be prudent to leave any expensive items of jewellery at home. The Botswana police are generally friendly and helpful to tourists. Current British Government advice can be found here
